Just like athletes warm up before a game, Fortnite players benefit from a good warm-up to improve their in-game performance. A proper warm-up:
Improves aim and reaction time.
Enhances building speed and accuracy.
Prepares your mind for fast-paced action.
Helps reduce mistakes during your first few matches.
Aim Training (5-10 minutes)
Getting your aim dialed in is essential for Fortnite. It’s all about being able to react quickly and hit your shots, especially in combat situations. A few ways to practice:
Aim Lab, KovaaK’s FPS Aim Trainer and/or Skaavok Aim Trainer (KovaaK and aim lab is PC ONLY!)
Fortnite’s Creative Mode:
Jump into a custom map designed for aim practice. Look for maps focused on flick shots, tracking, and reaction time. These are super useful for improving headshot accuracy.
Shoot at moving targets: Use bots in creative mode or target dummies in specific maps to help with reaction time and accuracy.
Building and Editing Drills (5-10 minutes)
Building and editing are critical in Fortnite, and practicing these skills can make all the difference in a fight.
Basic Building Practice: Set up a 1x1 or pyramid, and practice building ramps, walls, and floors in quick succession.
Edit Practice: Work on your editing speed by creating a box and quickly editing the walls or floors to improve your reaction time. Try custom edit maps in creative mode to help you practice faster edits.
Turbo Building: Try to practice maintaining continuous turbo building. It helps with your reaction time and keeps you safe in fights.
Movement Practice (5-10 minutes)
Good movement is key to dodging shots and staying unpredictable. Practice strafing, jumping, and quick directional changes to keep enemies guessing.
Free Building: Spend some time just running and jumping while building. This helps you practice your movement while maintaining good building speed.
Bunny Hopping: Get used to hopping while building and strafing to avoid getting hit. This makes you harder to hit and can give you an advantage in 1v1 duels.
Game Sense & Map Knowledge (5-10 minutes)
Knowing the map and how to use it is just as important as your mechanical skills. Spend time studying high-traffic areas, building opportunities, and knowing where to get the best loot.
Drop Locations: Practice landing at a few different spots to familiarize yourself with the loot and building opportunities. This will help you make faster decisions in real matches.
Rotation Practice: Learn how to rotate safely, avoiding popular areas where enemies are likely to land. Practice moving from zone to zone with minimal risk.
Aim Training (5-7 minutes)
Load into a creative aim training map (like Flick Shot Training or Tracking Training).
Spend 5-7 minutes practicing headshots and reflex shots.
Focus on hitting targets at varying distances and angles.
Building & Editing Practice (5-7 minutes)
Enter a creative map that focuses on building or editing drills.
Practice ramp rushes, quick edits, and floor/roof edits in a controlled environment.
Focus on fluidity and speed rather than trying to perfect everything at once.
Movement Drills (5 minutes)
In creative mode, practice running, jumping, and strafing while building.
Try to move unpredictably and practice shooting while in motion.
Practice making quick directional changes while building to get used to fluid movement.
Game Sense & Map Familiarization (5 minutes)
Drop into a low-key location to practice looting and rotating through zones.
Focus on learning where chests and ammo boxes spawn, and where to get resources fast.
Stay Calm: The goal of your warm-up is to build muscle memory and focus, not to stress out. If you mess up, keep going.
Consistency is Key: Warm up before every session for consistent performance. The more you practice, the faster you’ll improve.
Take Breaks: If you’re warming up for a long session, take small breaks to keep your mind fresh. It helps avoid burnout and keeps your reaction time sharp.
Set Goals: Focus on improving one aspect at a time (aim, building, editing, or movement). This will keep you from feeling overwhelmed.
Hop into Mechanics Training V5 and start in the building section. Free build for 5-10 minutes, trying to slow it down and then speed it up. Next, go into the "Piece" section and complete every drill. Finally, do every drill in the aim section for 2 minutes. The entire warm-up should take about 20-30 minutes to complete.
